Expectations,
evaluations and events Dear friends of the Pufendorf IAS, The new year at the Pufendorf Institute has begun, and we are excited to welcome five new Themes and three new Advanced Study Groups to start their work. The Institute is buzzing with activity, filled with exciting ideas and fresh collaborations among researchers and their guests. And this is just the beginning of the Pufendorf year. We kicked things off with a workshop for each Theme, designed to give them a strong start. It’s thrilling to discuss their expectations and how they can make the most of their time at the Institute. As these new groups settle into their offices and dive into their work, we’re launching the call for next year’s Themes… / Stacey Ristinmaa Sörensen, Director of the Pufendorf IAS | New Advanced Study Groups –
and a fifth Theme!On the 17 of June, the Pufendorf IAS' board decided to accept three applications to form new Advanced Study Groups - all starting now, in September 2024. A warm welcome to: - Oaths
and Courts – from Forum to the Future;
- Neobiogenesis: The Inevitability of life;
- Next Generation Healthscapes: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Care Facilities
of the Future.
We also welcome a fifth Theme: DigiJustice. This brings us to a total of ten interdisciplinary research groups in the house! Kulturnatten at Pufendorf IASOn 21 September it is time for "Kulturnatten"! "The culture night" is an annual event in Lund where cultural institutions organise events and open their houses - also during the evening and night. The Pufendorf IAS opens the doors to the public, we give guided tours in our beautiful building, host interesting popular science talks by Lund University researchers and this year and we will re-open the Exhibition "Coastal Perspectives" in our garden. Everything is free of charge, but you need to book tickets in advance. You'll find the programme (in Swedish) with links to the "ticket office" on our website: Kulturnatten | PUFENDORFINSTITUTET (lu.se) | The newest evaluation of the Pufendorf InstituteWe're by no means new to evaluation processes - the Pufendorf IAS gets evaluated every fourth year. During three days in May 2024, we welcomed an evaluation committee. It spent hours and hours reading and discussing our prepared documentation, interviewing researchers, stakeholders and LU leadership, meetings with Pufendorf staff and working on their evaluation report. They will re-visit us for a symposium in October... cliff hanger... | Symposium 21 October: Conducting Research in Interdisciplinary Teams We have invited researchers, critical friends and champions to share their insights on working in interdisciplinary teams, to discuss the role of the Pufendorf IAS today, and to reflect on how the Institute’s original vision has evolved.
The symposium ends with "Pufendorf & Friends". Read the entire programme and register (no later than 4 October). | | | |
Throwback May...We encourage our Themes at the
Pufendorf IAS to try various methods of research communication when conveying their progress. And what an interesting and inspirational May we had.
The Theme Roadmap of Biomaterials
4.0 organised
a conference during three days. But not just any other conference, with hours
of power-point presentations. No, it was intense interactions: Researchers from
Lund University met with international researchers - each of them a true
pioneer in his/her field of study.
The Theme Sound of
Democracy attracted
a "full house" during a lunch seminar about - and with - an audio
paper.
The
Theme Relentless
Existential Threats used
performance as a way of conveying their messages on how to prepare for
Existential Crises.
The
Theme Coastal
Perspectives'
exhibition in our garden was a grand finale, attracting many visitors. Did you
miss it? You'll get one more chance: The exhibition will be on display 21 September again, during "Kulturnatten".
| | In our next newsletter, we'll tell you more about our current Themes and ASGs and how we celebrate 15 years as an Institute of Advanced Studies! We'll remind you to apply for Themes or ASG and, knowing us, we probably want to invite you to even more events. Make sure to check out our event calendar from time to time... |
