It is the best of times ... and the busiest times Dear friends of the Pufendorf IAS, May is the time for renewal at the Pufendorf, our Themes are rounding off their work, and workshops or symposia will be held by all of our current Themes in the next few weeks. Stimulating and inspiring, but also a sign that the term is coming to an end. The Pufendorf will soon welcome an expert panel to evaluate our interdisciplinary work, and at the same time we are preparing to welcome a new set of Themes this fall, we are very pleased that four new groups are busy planning their work and we are lining up Fellows and guests for a new year. There is a broad reach in the scope of the new Themes, how to assessing the value of ecological loss and damage to using genetic technology in armed conflict, multisensory digital architecture, and closer to home, taxation in the digital age. But before the new term starts with new researchers and Themes we look forward to a fantastic Swedish summer, relaxation and inspiration. / Stacey Ristinmaa Sörensen, Director of the Pufendorf IAS | Au revoir, Themes! Bienvenue, Themes!Casual work place chatting with members in ongoing Pufendorf Themes is nearly impossible right now. They are all busy, preparing for end-events here at Pufendorf IAS (read more about these and register for them below). We are going to miss all of them, of course. Our consolation is that we won't loose contact with them, just because they leave the premises. Exciting research activities will continue, in one way or another. And we get to welcome new Pufendorf Themes in September, which always fills us with curious anticipation. Read more about the new Pufendorf IAS Themes 2024-2025 | Lunch seminar: Sound of Democracy 16 May (yes, there are still a few seats available)The Pufendorf IAS' Theme Sound of Democracy invites you to an extended lunch seminar, marking the end of the research activities within the institute and the beginning of another exciting journey. Relentless Existential Threats - stretching across disciplines and dimensions to foster existential well-being and sustainability
Existential threat is a powerful force on individuals and societies. Theories and models for understanding and addressing existential threats seem very different at first glance, yet they do overlap. The Pufendorf IAS Theme Relentless Existential Threats explores similarities and differences to foster existential well-being across an individual, social, and global level. Welcome to an afternoon workshop (starts at 13 sharp) on 24 May. The workshop is free of charge. Please register before 20 May.

Welcome back, Classical Archaeology and Ancient
History
Not only interdisciplinary research is going on here at Pufendorf IAS! We have also had the pleasure to welcome a group of students and their teachers from the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History - back to their old “turf”. And not for any other lecture, but for doing 3D-scannings of statues and the sculpture hall.

Pufendorf & Friends: Stay tuned! Our popular seminar series - cleverly disguised as After Work - will continue this autumn. In our next newsletter we will be able to present the new topics, all with a distinct interdisciplinary flavour, for researchers by researchers. But it turns out, not only researchers are recommending us: "I left the meeting with new
perspectives on the subject at hand. I would recommend these discussion forums
to those interested in interdisciplinary academic conversations on highly
relevant topics." Carla Böhme, Department administrator (and LinkedIn
administrator) at the Department of Informatics. | |
