Spring greetings from the CMES team!
Every year, it is a thrill to witness the first signs of spring in the CMES garden, now beautifully adorned with blue flowers! We are already midway through the semester, and March contained several exciting research activities.
In collaboration with Lund City Library, CMES organised a public lecture featuring the award-winning journalist and senior Middle East correspondent Cecilia Uddén, Swedish Radio. The event attracted a large audience, with over 600 attendees. Another highlight was the topical workshop “Regionalisation of Crisis Responses” with leading international and regional experts who addressed one of the region’s most urgent challenges. CMES also held a stimulating retreat for researchers, which focused on practising and sharing strategies for writing successful research applications. The annual traditional Nowruz, the Iranian New Year, was also celebrated together with staff and students.
Looking ahead, we have several engaging CMES seminars planned for April, covering topics such as public dissent in Iran, reconstruction in Syria and agonistic ethnography in Palestine and Israel. Please also note that CMES popular science series, which provides expert analyses of current events in the Middle East, is now available in Arabic, making it more accessible to a wider audience. In addition, CMES has announced several calls for project proposals (deadline 2 May) as well as a tenure-track position in Middle East History (deadline 19 May).
