Looking forward
to 2025
Welcome to the
last newsletter of the year. It has been an eventful year that began with an appreciated
initiative seminar on the theme of AI, economics and societal impact, where one
of the lecturers, Daron Acemoglu, is now one of the Nobel Laureates in Economics!
Ahead of 2025,
we have two main things in pipeline, in both security research and semiconductor
technology.
Security research
We continue our work to stimulate interdisciplinary security research at Chalmers. In 2024, we have arranged a couple of workshops to encourage collaborations between researchers from different departments, and we intend to hold a few more next year. In this way, we also hope to interest more researchers, including those who do not have security as their main field of research, but who come into contact with security issues in their research.
This is an important field, both due to the increased digitalization of society as well as the overall global security situation. So, there are also thoughts for an open initiative seminar in the autumn. The goal is to strengthen research in cybersecurity and hardware security, areas that are critical for protecting everything from internet use to national infrastructure.
Semiconductor
technology and the EU's Chips Act – seminar 8 April
We are also
currently planning an initiative seminar on the theme of semiconductors in early
April. Semiconductors are crucial for the development of advanced electronic systems,
and there is a need to build local skills and capacities to reduce dependency on
global supply chains. As part of the EU's Chips Act, an initiative to strengthen
Europe's capacity in semiconductor technology, Chalmers is collaborating with Lund
University and KTH, with the goal of establishing
a competence center for semiconductor technology.
In connection with this work, we therefore
invite to an open initiative seminar where we will focus on the need for the
right expertise and how Chalmers can contribute to the European Chips Act by
addressing the skills shortage.
The ambition is to bring together researchers,
industrial partners and other stakeholders to discuss and develop strategies for
future research and education in semiconductor technology.

With this, we
would like to thank you for this year and wish you all a
Great Holiday Season and a Happy New
Year!
