Vice Dean Johanna Penell
‘Great
team spirit and sense of community at the faculty’
There are
currently two major projects in progress at the VH Faculty, involving some
radical changes. Many changes concern the programme offering, and as of January
2019, Johanna Penell from the Department of Clinical Sciences is vice dean with
responsibility for the faculty’s programmes and courses. It’s her second stint
as vice dean and member of the faculty board.
‘I enjoy
working with these issues, in particular now when so much is happening. It’s
very rewarding to be part of something where I, together with others, can have
an influence and create optimal conditions for our work’ says Johanna.

There were several recruitment issues on the agenda at the 19 October meeting. Other items on the agenda were fundraising, the expansion project and the recently launched evaluation of the degree programme in veterinary medicine. | | | | | UDS and the VH Faculty to merge
The integration project is highly affected by the
operational changes at UDS and the fact that interim management has been
appointed. However, the plan for the integration has not been changed. The risk
and impact analyses, carried out in mixed groups with representatives from UDS
and KV, have now been compiled. It will constitute a part of the supporting
documents for the Vice-Chancellor's decision in January. The main risks
identified in the process will be elevated to an action/continuity plan. Read the Vice-Chancellor's blogg – "A major – but necessary – change" (scroll down for the English text).
The
accreditation means everything for veterinary education
Every seven years veterinary education is evaluated
and now it's time again. The evaluation - the accreditation - becomes a receipt
that SLU's veterinary education keeps what it promises.
“The accreditation is a quality stamp for the
education”, says Ivar Vågsholm, who leads the work at SLU.
The evaluation consists of two parts, an internal
self-evaluation part, which has now begun, and an visitation in the spring of
2024 which consists of a weeklong visit by EAEVE (European Association of
Establishments for Veterinary Education), the organization that issues the
accreditation.

New routines regarding doctoral education at VH
In June, the VH Faculty's delegation order regarding the assignment to the Doctoral Education Board (Fun) was changed. This means that the chairman of Fun makes decisions on the admission of new doctoral students to doctoral studies, approves applications to defend a doctoral thesis or defends a licentiate thesis, approves doctoral courses conducted outside SLU, pre-approves courses that a doctoral student wishes to participate in, and approves changes to the supervisor group. | | | | | Have lunch with the deans
During the autumn, there will be two opportunities to "Lunch with the deans", an occasion when the faculty's deans will be on site in Café Moccado to listen to and take part of employees' ideas and views on matters concerning the faculty. More opportunities will be given during the spring, all in Café Moccado at lunchtime. - The first opportunity is Monday,
7
November, 12:15–13:00.
- The second occasion is Friday, 2 December, 12:15–13:00.
A warm welcome with your thoughts and questions to the deans.
