Message from the DirectorIt is with great pleasure that I note that the spring has been a very productive period for SASNET. Not only have we launched a number of new grant initiatives, we have also been able to, once again, invite external speakers and guests to Lund University.
We are currently planning the autumn seminar schedule and we expect to be able to offer numerous fascinating in-person as well as hybrid events. Lund University researchers who are in the process of putting together and submitting a major national or international research application may apply for a planning grant.

| | | Grants for writing a research application Two grants intended to support individual researchers at Lund University in their writing of research applications. The grant equals one month’s full-time work and should be used by June 2023.

Colonial origins of modern bureaucracy? India and the professionalization of the British civil service
In a new article, published in Governance, SASNET Director Ted Svensson (together with Agnes Cornell) examines the diffusion of meritocratic practices as a potential instance of policy transfer by scrutinizing the introduction of open and competitive examinations during the mid-nineteenth century in the British Civil Service.
