We are approaching Spring and we are looking back at an eventful start to 2023. We have said thank you and goodbye to Sara Palander the Center’s Director for the past 12 years and we are welcoming Maria Rydberg, former project manager at the Center, as the new Director. In cooperation with all partner organizations, we have prepared a large application to Vinnova to get funding for a Competence Center within life cycle action for climate neutrality and circularity. And for the first time since Covid we have been able to give our two-day course in applied life cycle thinking as a physical course, which was greatly appreciated by both course participants and course leaders. Looking even further back, we have also said goodbye to 2022 in our Annual Report and celebrated a growing network, several projects and a bunch of fantastic events, both digital and physical.
Looking ahead, we recently received very encouraging news when our application to host the 26th SETAC LCA Symposium in Gothenburg in October 2024 was approved. Read more about it and other ongoing and upcoming projects and activities below.
Sincerely,
Anna and Maria, Technical Secretariat, Swedish Life Cycle Centre |

SETAC 2024 As Prof. Greg Peters, scientific director, previously announced in his Scientific Directions, Swedish Life Cycle Center will be arranging the 26th SETAC LCA symposium in October 2023. Since it started as a small case study symposium back in 1993, this event has become one of the most important general scientific conferences focused on LCA methods and applications and has played an important part in the development of LCA. The theme for the conference will be : “Making LCA meaningful: good data, better models, sustainable decisions”. It will take place in Gothenburg, at Chalmers University of Technology, on 21-23 October 2024 and we are looking forward to inviting you all to a great conference. More information will come during spring but until then, save the date!

| Finalized projectThe project Modelling of electricity in Product Environmental Footprints investigated the need for revised texts regarding the modelling of electricity production in the EU Ecodesign Regulation for photovoltaics and in the general PEF rules. | | | | Applied life cycle thinkingFor the first time since before Covid the popular two-day course Applied Life Cycle Thinking was held physically, at Chalmers. The course was fully booked with 16 participants from industry, government agencies and research institutes. The course leaders Karin Sanne (from IVL) and Kristian Jelse (from Greendesk) combined both lecturers with many group exercises. During the day the course participants met the guest speakers Sara Heimersson from Essity and Sofiia Miliutenko Martin from the Swedish Transport Administration who gave one guest lecture each on how life cycle thinking is applied in their organization. The course was highly appreciated by the course participants and has received a 9 of 10 in the course evaluation. If you would like to attend the next course, which will be given during fall 2023, please send an e-mail to lifecyclecenter@chalmers.se. | | | | Annual report for 2022The annual report for 2022 is now published at lifecyclecenter.se. | Collaboration opportunitiesSwedish Life Cycle Center plays an important role for all its actors within the Center to build networks, competence and influence future development. How the partnership is used is up to the partner. Partners value the direct contact to the network, research and high level discussions. Others are engaged in working groups that go in line with their organization’s agenda. And for some organizations, Swedish Life Cycle Center has been and is a key to their continuous work with life cycle related improvements and capacity building. The Center hosts a dialogue group with nine government agencies in Sweden, engages small and medium-sized companies through a letter of collaboration and enters into collaborative partnerships with other life cycle organizations at a global level. |
