Two months as Dean - reflections and the road ahead
Two months have passed since I took up my position as Dean, and the work
to shape the faculty’s future is well underway. Today, the departmental
dialogues begin – a valuable opportunity to gain deeper insight into our departments.
At the same time, we face new challenges, where SLU’s expertise in bioeconomy
is becoming increasingly important for Sweden’s crisis preparedness. What opportunities
does the government’s research bill offer,
and how can we make the most of them? Read more about what lies ahead!
The new Faculty Board has held its first meeting.During the meeting, working methods were discussed, along with recurring issues such as conflicts of interest. The Faculty Board's first formal decision was regarding which vice deans should be appointed at the NJ Faculty during the current mandate period. In addition, the board handled a large number of recruitment cases.
Vice Deans, boards and committées
Four vice deans were appointed and the board also decided on the staffing of all the committees and boards under the Faculty Board.
Ongoing recruitments
The board has appointed experts for five recruitment processes and approved advertisements for several positions—five professors and one senior lecturer. The recruitment of a professor in Soil and Environment has also begun.
The future of graduate schools
Discussions are ongoing regarding the development of graduate schools beyond 2025. An open call is planned ahead of a decision in the autumn.
Strategic work
The faculty’s action plans will be developed based on SLU’s upcoming updated strategy. This is an important process that will continue throughout the rest of 2025.
