This
spring newsletter highlights recent news from the Swedish 3Rs Center and
upcoming events in the 3Rs area.
Animal-free cell culture
The
Swedish 3Rs Center has published an overview of novel animal-free cell culture
components and useful resources for serum-free media, 3D-scaffolds and
components for detachment and freezing of cells.
Information about development and validation of
methods
The
Swedish 3Rs Center has made an inventory of online resources for development,
evaluation and formal validation of in vitro
methods. Many of the tools are generally useful to ensure method robustness,
and some are more specific for methods that are meant to be used in regulatory
risk assessment.
Support in
choosing an appropriate time for acclimatization of mice and rats
In order to
achieve reliable research results, it is common to acclimatize animals after
stressful experiences, such as transportation. The Swedish 3Rs Center has compiled support materials to help researchers choose the appropriate time for acclimatization of mice and rats.
Euthanasia
of research animals may cause great suffering if the procedure is not carried
out correctly. The Swedish 3Rs Center has compiled a material to be used as a
support when choosing methods for euthanasia, anaesthesia and confirmation of
death in mice.
This support material was first published in Swedish in 2023 and is now available in English.
Webinar on development and validation of test methods
The Swedish 3Rs
Center would like to invite you to a lunch webinar about the importance of
development and validation of test methods to enhance the quality in research
and to grow the Swedish service lab sector.
