SASNET Newsletter - April 2023 | |
Message from the Director
For SASNET, May will be a truly exciting
month. On 4 May, we welcome Christophe Jaffrelot to Lund.
During his stay, Christophe will give the inaugural SASNET Annual Lecture. I hope many of you can either join the event in person or, at a later time, watch the recorded version of it.

Later in May, SASNET is organising two workshops on highly topical and timely themes. One is addressing the issue of shrinking civic space and the other the relationship between majoritarianism, caste politics, and minoritisation. On 17 May, two of the workshop participants – Avinash Kumar and Ingrid Srinath – will speak at the Higher Research Seminar in Human Rights Studies. If you are in Lund, do make sure to participate in the latter event. On 23 May, I encourage those of you who have the possibility to attend the seminar with Eleonor Marcussen and Niladri Chatterjee. The seminar is centred on the politics of disaster and aid in South Asia – an issue that is surely of interest to many of us. Looking beyond May, I would also like to mention that SASNET will – together with the Swedish Institute of International Affairs – organise a panel debate during the Almedalen Week (‘Almedalsveckan’) in Visby on 29 June. The panel will address India’s current and future role in world politics and how it affects Sweden. If you are in Visby during the Almedalen Week, do not miss what will certainly be a great discussion.
