Message from the DirectorAs the academic year is about to begin, we at SASNET look forward to an exciting autumn in terms of arranging fascinating seminars and workshops. In mid-September, SASNET will host a panel debate on the present situation in Sri Lanka as well as co-organise an event on how the war in Ukraine has impacted on India, China and Japan. | | | | Ted Svensson, Director, SASNET, Lund University | | | | | | | On 30 September, a SASNET symposium will take place at Biskopshuset in Lund. The symposium will revolve around current research on South Asia that is being carried out at Lund University, and thus promises to be a truly rewarding and stimulating day. For the full programme, see pdf. Please note that the symposium is only open to invited participants.
These are only a few of the events that we expect to be able to offer during the coming months. Do check our calendar regularly for updates, and follow us on our social media channels. Finally, I would like to add a reminder about two upcoming deadlines. If you are a Lund University PhD, 1 September is the last day to apply for the SASNET travel grant. | | | Planning grants for major research application
SASNET invites Lund University researchers who are in the process of putting together and submitting a major national or international research application to apply for a new round of planning grants. The deadline for applying is 16 September 2022.

Lund University PhD students may apply for two travel grants. Each grant amounts to a maximum value of 25000 SEK (direct costs) and shall be used to cover travel expenses such as flight tickets, accommodation, and visa fees. The deadline for applying is 1 September 2022. Read more. | | | Summer school 2022: Gender, Disasters and Climate Risk SASNET is sponsoring a PhD-level summer school on gender, disasters and climate risks. The summer school, which takes place in Lund between 19 and 23 September 2022, is organised by the Division of Risk Management and Societal Safety at LTH.
One of the aims is to contribute to a gender inclusive approach in Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation research with a focus on energy and practice by offering pedagogical training to actors such as researchers and practitioners. Several PhD students from South Asia have been invited. Read more

In a new article, published in Territory, Politics, Governance, Postdoctoral Fellow Guy Jackson (together with Aishath Azfa, Ross Westoby, Karen E. McNamara, Celia McMichael & Carol Farbotko) explores the experiences of people who, as an adaptation strategy in response to climate change,
have been involuntary
resettled from Gaadhoo Island, Maldives.
