News from the Centre for Reproductive Biology in Uppsala
The Centre for Reproductive Biology in Uppsala (CRU) is a joint body between the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences and Uppsala University. CRU is a network of scientists working in the field of reproductive biology.
CRU publishes a newsletter twice a year, highlighting upcoming events and recent research publications. The newsletter is distributed to all members and anyone interested. Contact cru@slu.se to subscribe.

Elective induction of labor in low-risk pregnancies was associated with neonatal complications
Researchers from the Department of Women’s and Children’s Health, Uppsala University found that women who had undergone elective induction of labor had higher risk for chorioamnionitis, bacterial sepsis, intracranial hemorrhage, hyperbilirubinemia, assisted ventilation and neonatal seizures compared to deliveries with spontaneous labor onset.
Maternal enrichment and stereotypies of sows affected epigenome of emotionality-related brain regions in their piglets
Researchers from the Department of Organismal Biology, Uppsala University, together with collaborators from the University of Sao Paolo and University of Passo Fundo in Brazil found that the maternal environment and stereotypies (repetitive behaviors without apparent function) in these gestating sows were associated with methylation alterations in the hippocampus, frontal cortex, and amygdala of their offsprings.
Single layer centrifugation reduced bacteria in bull semen
Researchers from the Departments of Clinical Sciences, and Biomedical Science and Veterinary Public Health, SLU, have shown that single layer centrifugation, both high and low colloid densities, was an effective physical method to remove bacteria in bull semen.
CRU Conference: From Gametes to (Epi)Genomics: The Symphony of Reproduction
This two-day conference (Feb 15-16, 2024) will have sessions on sex determination, epigenetic programming, sex chromosome aneuploidy, and inherited patterns. Submit your abstract before 15 December and register early before slots get filled.
It has been 25 years since CRU was established in 1999 by the Vice-Chancellors of SLU and Uppsala University. Join us as we celebrate this milestone in 2024!
