The economy heading in the right direction
"We have come through the worst cost crisis and can now see the light at the end of the tunnel." That’s how Anders Söderholm, President of KTH, describes the university’s recently adopted budget, which indicates a cautiously optimistic outlook. In the budget document you can also find proposals to the government on education, research, infrastructure and premises, including a new model for the rental of premises by Akademiska Hus. | Well, maybe not, as a former programme director for Mechatronics it is not at the top of my priority list, but in my new role as Deputy GA, I’ve begun reviewing ITM’s educational portfolio. Mikael Ersson is appointed professor in the emerging field of "Modeling of Metallurgical Processes." In this role, he looks forward to contributing to the green transition of the Swedish steel industry and increasing young people's interest in materials science.

Researchers at ITM are working to reduce the risk of grass and forest fires. As part of the FIRE project, they are developing a sensor platform for forestry machines that will generate high-resolution fire risk maps, providing insights at the square-meter level.
