CMESNewsletter #27April 2022 | | | | Message from the DirectorSpring greetings from the CMES team!Spring is a wonderful time of the year at CMES with its surrounding gardens covered with beautiful flower beds! It is also a busy time of the year with preparing new research applications. The deadline is soon approaching for the CMES call for project proposals on April 19 and we hope to receive many exciting ones. Coming up next week is also a new call for two writing retreats at CMES in the autumn. Please note that CMES is hosting an “Open House” on May 18 between 13-16. You are all warmly welcome to mingle with CMES scholars and read their excellent posters, which showcase their ongoing research. Drinks and snacks will be served! CMES warmly welcomes the new professor of Islamic Studies Oliver Scharbrodt! He will give both a talk at the CMES research seminar on May 12 and a roundtable on Transnational Twelver Shiism on May 19 as part of his inaugural day and lecture. You are all warmly welcome to attend! Finally, after two years of the pandemic Almedalen is back on track this summer. CMES is part of the program and organises two highly topical panels on trendspotting democracy in the region and on the implementation of UN resolution 1325. The panels consist of an exciting mixture of Middle East scholars and practitioners. Wishing you happy spring holidays! | | | | Open Call for Project Proposals - Deadline April 19CMES supports supports and coordinates research projects with high scientific potential, encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration between researchers from different disciplines within Lund University. All project members will get institutional affiliation with CMES and perform the research at CMES. One research project will be funded, starting in September 2022 and running for 3 years. Applications are open to scholars with employment at Lund University that hold doctoral degrees from at least two different disciplines. Deadline for applications: 19 April 2022. More information can be found on the CMES website. | | | | SWEMENA Conference 2022: June 13-14The 2022 SWEMENA conference will bring together researchers and practitioners from institutions across Sweden to discuss contributions presented by researchers working on MENA-related topics. The conference will be held at the University of Gothenburg's School of Global Studies. The deadline for registering is May 13, 2022: registration form for attendees. | | | | Hydrosolidarity Video: Cooperation and Conflict Resolution in International Water GovernanceThe Pufendorf Institute at Lund University has produced a short video about the the research theme "Hydrosolidarity 2.0: Ethics and Conflict Resolution in International Water Governance." Participating from CMES are Researcher Dalia Abdel Hady, Director Karin Aggestam and Deputy Director Ronny Berndtsson.
