The
AgriFoSe2030 project teams continue to deliver high qualitative outputs, which
will lead to increased use of evidence based knowledge in agricultural policies
and practices. This is critical for addressing global food insecurity. In
mid-September the FAO report Tracking progress on food and agriculture-related
SDG indicators 2023 was launched and I am looking forward reading this
report as it is highly relevant for the AgriFoSe2030 programme and might guide
us in our future work.
In this
newsletter you will find a few good examples of what the programme has been
working on lately, for example a new brief about AgriFoSe2030 to share the knowledge on what we do and a
scientific review focusing on trade-offs between agricultural
productivity and ecosystem functions and services. I promise these are worth
reading!
You are
also welcome to participate in the media showcase event 14 November in Nairobi (live-streamed) and the online launch of the updated cook book on
insects 26 October. You might even get some inspiration for the Saturday night
dinner!
Last but not least, if you missed the Agri4D conference you can watch the round table discussion with AgriFoSe2030 on the website.
Enjoy the reading!

Welcome to join the cook book launch!
AgriFoSe2030 in collaboration with Chinhoyi University of Technology, Zimbabwe, invites you to the launch of the second edition of the edible insect’s cookbook.
The event will be held in Chinhoyi University on 26 October 2023 and promises to provide an exciting array of insect dishes and their nutritional value.
AgriFoSe2030 invites all interested researchers, policy makers, media and the public to be part of this event to gain inspiration on new and dynamic ways of harvesting, processing and preparing edible insects for safe consumption. The cookbook complements existing efforts to shape the dialogue on the contributions of edible insects towards the attainment of sustainable food systems.
The event will be live-streamed on Youtube, so make sure to put a reminder in your calendar!
AgriFoSe2030 contributes with valuable knowledge at Agri4D
AgriFoSe2030, showcased its interventions at the recently concluded Agri4D conference.
At the Agri4D panels, select AgriFoSe2030 project leaders took centre stage and shared their experiences and change stories on how research and local knowledge can be utilised as the building blocks of transformative change in agricultural policies and practices
On the last day of the Agri4D conference, AgriFoSe2030 also facilitated a roundtable discussion on 'Engaging Stakeholders and Translating Science into Policy’
A new scientific article was published a couple of months ago by one of the projects in Challenge 2: Assessing Trade-Offs between Agricultural Productivity and Ecosystem Functions: A Review of Science-Based Tools?
AgriFoSe2030 members join Leadership for
Transformative Change programme
In a significant stride towards
sustainability and societal transformation, members of the AgriFoSe2030
programme, Merezia Wilson and Mohammed Samkunde who work in the
GenSens (Gender-sensitive village extension training)
project under challenge 3, have been selected to participate in the Leadership
for Transformative Change programme.
The main objective of their project is
to understand the inequities that prevent extension services from reaching
women in Tanzania and how these can be mitigated. The participation of
AgriFoSe2030 researchers in the leadership programme will give them the
opportunity to share their experiences and be among 60 global leaders and
pioneers for social development.
AgriFoSe2030 invites you to join our media showcase event in Nairobi on 14 November. The event targets multiple stakeholders including policy makers, academic institutions, civil society, private sector, international organisations, national and regional agriculture institutions. The event will be live-streamed on Youtube.
