Engaging citizens in the transformation towards a sustainable future
Warmly welcome to the first Researchers Fika this year, this time with speed talks from Camilla Brudin Borg, Associated senior lecturer in literary studies at the University of Gothenburg and Alasdair Skelton, Professor of Geochemistry and Petrology at Stockholm University. The talks are followed by an opportunity to discuss the topic with the other participants in the meeting.
Talks
How to use citizens positive visions of the future to co-create a sustainable development?
The ability to use positive imaginaries has proven to be important to create positive change in many area. How do we use this knowledge to bridge the gap between climate science, facts, and the alarming reports of a possible future (as IPCC’s latest report) and the individual capacity to imagine (other) sustainable futures? In this presentation Camilla Brudin Borg and Alasdair Skelton will talk about the Utopian Stories project, an attempt to use storytelling and fantasies of a sustainable future to get citizens engaged in the transition towards a sustainable future?
Camilla Brudin Borg is Associated senior lecturer in
literary studies at the University of Gothenburg with
utopian (and dystopian) literary stories, ecocriticism and environmental
humanities as one of her special field of research. She is the project leader
of the interdisciplinary project Utopian stories that collaborates with Swedish
school children to collect stories of a good future.
Alasdair Skelton is Professor of Geochemistry and
Petrology at Stockholm University and was Director of the Bolin Centre for Climate
Research for 9 years. His role in the Utopian stories-project is to calculate
greenhouse gas emissions and to contribute with knowledge about the carbon cycle and timescales of climate change.
Researchers Fika is an activity organized by the Gothenburg Centre for Sustainable Development, as part of strengthening the Research Network for Sustainable Development at Chalmers and the University of Gotheburg. At each fika you will get to listen to speed talks on a sustainability-oriented topic from researchers representing different disciplines followed by an opportunity to network and share your favorite fika with the other participants in the meeting. If you are a member of the research network, welcome to submit your own proposal for a talk.
