A One Health and interdisciplinarity approach – a prerequisite for the complex challenges we face
A new semester stands at the door and we feel excited to continue our journey of implementing the One Health perspective and stimulating more interdisciplinary collaborations among SLU researchers. We do this, among other things, by facilitating: - The One Health Breakfast Club, where we meet and mingle, get inspired by each other while eating breakfast together. Keep an eye out for all upcoming dates this autumn – see you there! (the picture above is from our breakfast before the summer).
- For the second year in a row, the Future Platforms offer a group of researchers to join our Researcher residency, with the aim to strengthen inter- and transdisciplinary research at SLU.
- Series of climate conversations – this autumn we continue the series with an internal dialogue on climate and animal food production. Feel most welcome to participate!
We also provide you a summary from the World Water Week last week, an interview with Tarquin who recently defended his thesis, as well as tips on more upcoming events related to One Health.
Pleasant reading!

What is "the big idea" about your research?
My main focus is on symbioses between plants and microbes such as bacteria and fungi, in particular how the interactions between plants, root-symbiotic fungi, and soil microbes influence ecological and biogeochemical processes such as plant and forest health and carbon and nutrient cycling.

In recent years, we have collectively endured many transformative shifts in the way we work, teach, interact, engage, and relate to one another. Our conference theme hopes to encourage scholars and practitioners to help us articulate our understanding and practice of integration, wholeness, and wellness. | | | | | SLU takes interdisciplinarity forwardHow important is interdisciplinarity in research and education for SLU to achieve its strategic objective to play a key role in the transition to a sustainable society? One Health is an integrated, unifying approach that aims to sustainably balance and optimize the health of people, animals and ecosystems. It recognises that the health of humans health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment (including ecosystems) are closely linked and inter-dependent. | | | | | | | SLU Future One Health – one of four Future Platforms at SLU
