SASNET Newsletter - November 2022 | |
Message from the Director
The autumn term has been a very productive period for SASNET. We have,
for instance, organised the first annual SASNET symposium, which we hope will
be a recurring event. The symposium brought together a broad range of
theoretically innovative and empirically rich research on the region. The call
for papers for next year’s symposium will be circulated in April 2023.

Last week I visited Bangladesh. The trip demonstrated the many opportunities that exist for Lund University to expand on existing, and initiate new, partnerships with universities and other research institutions in Bangladesh. This is something that I sincerely look forward to facilitating during the next few years. It, finally, pleases me to convey that SASNET will support Catarina Kinnvall with a planning grant that will allow her to write a large-scale funding application on the theme ”Dismantling Democracy: Insecurity, Emotions and Authoritarian Populism”. The proposed project will, apart from adding novel conceptual and theoretical insights, seek to explore how these issues unfold in South Asia.
