New Marie Curie Fellows at E2Three researchers to receive the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship at E2 are Furkan Keskin and Arezou Rezazadeh from the Communication systems
group, and Liqing Ding, currently a guest in the
Antenna systems group who
will start as postdoc in the Communication
systems group this autumn. Furkan Keskin will in cooperation with the
industry (Volvo and
Ericsson) focus on a novel co-design of radar
and communications (RadCom) systems via a joint Orthogonal Time-Frequency-Space
(OTFS) waveform. Arezou Rezazadeh will work on
increasing the theoretical understanding of deep neural networks (DNN). Liqin Ding’s research is about Value-of-Information driven communication for connected
and automated transportation.

5G
researchers of tomorrow trained at E2
This week,
the Optical Networks group hosted a training event for 14 PhD students
engaged in the EU project 5G STEP FWD (MSCA ITN). During an industry study
group the trainees presented their current work to industry experts to get
feedback. Also, two training schools were arranged with speakers from
academia and industry. One was on “Passive optical networks: architectures,
Media Access Control and Resource Allocation techniques” and one on
“Fiber-wireless access networks: Challenges and opportunities”.
The mission
of 5G STEP FWD is to create a training and research environment for young
researchers, aiming at designing architectures, systems and algorithms for
building the 5G network infrastructure of tomorrow.

E2 researcher on positioning and 6G
Henk
Wymeersch, in the
Communications systems group, was featured in the January issue of
Elektroniktidningen, where he was interviewed on a new positioning technique to
be used by the next generation high-speed internet. The research focuses on mobile
systems but may also be used for vehicle positioning.
| Making the internet more energy efficient Peter Andrekson, Erik Agrell, and Per Larson Edefors worked together in the 5-year project “Energy-efficient optical fibre communication” to find ways of reducing the internet’s energy needs. Their breakthroughs, including error correcting data chips up to 10 times less energy consumptive than current models, were hailed in industry publications including Engineering and Technology Magazine, and the Dutch website Computable.
| Chalmers fence in the newsThis year’s Chalmers fence at the Gothenburg Horse Show celebrates its fifth birthday with two pieces of news. For the first time, the fence’s technology is using AI, and soon all the collected Chalmers technology from previous years will move into the Swedish national riding school Strömsholm. This was reported on Swedish radio, as well as in Hippson, a leading source for horse news.
