CMESNewsletter #24November/December 2021 | | | | The CMES building in a wintry Lund and CMES staff at a holiday lunch. | Message from the DirectorSeason's Greetings from the team at the Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies! We are soon reaching the end of 2021. It has been a very exciting and productive year at CMES despite all the challenges and uncertainties from the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Unfortunately we had to cancel our CMES Open House in December due to the pandemic, but will reschedule the event in the spring of 2022. The CMES staff is amazing and persevere in high spirit in their research endeavours! The implementation of CMES 2.0. is now in full swing and new recruitment of both senior and junior scholars has been made as part of new research projects and PhD programs. CMES is also very happy to note the new professorial recruitments in Islamology. We look forward to welcoming professor Oliver Scharbrodt and visiting professor Yafa Shanneik to Lund University in the spring and to collaborate with them in the near future. We are also very pleased to welcoming back Dalia Abdel Hady and Rola El-Husseini Dean for CMES writing retreats in the spring. The CMES seminar program for the spring 2022 is nearly set and contains a broad range of exciting and diverse research presentations on the Middle East. First out is a seminar on Revolution and Counter-Revolution in the Middle East and North Africa with professor Michelle Pace at Roskilde University. Also do not miss to watch on Lund University’s Youtube channel CMES distinguished panel on trendspotting future challenges in the Middle East, in case you missed it live at Skissernas Museum. Wishing you all Happy Holidays and a peaceful New Year!
