Visual Analytics with Dimensionality Reduction: Assessment and Interpretation
When: 11th May, 2023
Where: Zoom. Registration required.
An online mini-course involving technical details about the used concepts and techniques, live demos of selected tools and libraries, and a tutorial session with individual support in applying the presented methods to your own datasets. Hosted by the Linnaeus node of InfraVis.
Do you have people in your network that might need visualization support from InfraVis?
Help us spread this five-minute survey so that InfraVis can tailor its services to researchers' visualization needs and provide stronger visualization support.
At the beginning of 2023, InfraVis conducted a research infrastructure interaction survey to understand data visualization needs at Swedish research infrastructures. The survey is to be used as a basis for a close and constructive dialogue between InfraVis and the surveyed research infrastructures.
As part of its strategic development, InfraVis has further met with several research infrastructures, including Swedish National Data Service (SND) and National Bioinformatics Infrastructure Sweden (NBIS). The purpose of the meetings was to get to know one another's workflows and user interaction models as well as to explore opportunities for future collaboration.
His algorithms should provide better age estimates
Determine a person's age based on just a photo? Anders Hast - Professor in Computerised Image Processing and InfraVis Application Expert from the Uppsala node is developing a unique AI method which can enable us to estimate a person's age through face recognition better than the currently used medical methods that examine knees, teeth and collarbones with too high margins of error. The method is not only partly based on visualization techniques, but it also employs visualization for the analysis of both the data and the results.
Anders Hast has actively been using his method for accurate identification of a person's sex and has high hopes that the method will prove effective even in the case of age estimates. This new method can provide grounds for fairer decisions in asylum-related cases.
Student visualization projects receive constructive feedback from InfraVis Experts
During the first half of spring term 2023, students of Information Visualization - a course examined by InfraVis National Technical Manager Mario Romero and supported by the infrastructure’s Visualization Studio VIC, developed fully-functioning information visualization systems that facilitate actionable insights through interactive data transformations, visual mappings, and view transformations. The ten projects were presented in March, and more than ten InfraVis Application Experts provided the students with constructive feedback to help them improve the output.
Joakim has experience developing web-based design and visualization software for nucleic-acid nanostructure and other self-assembly simulations. While his main expertise lies within molecular dynamics visualization, Joakim can help researchers from any field with WebGL visualization or tool development needs.
