As spring unfolds, we’re finally basking in delightful weather after a series of setbacks. However, along with the warmth comes an unwelcome guest: mosquitoes! In Uppsala, we’ve already felt their insatiable thirst for blood.
In light of this, we’d like to bring your attention to World Malaria Day on 25th April – this provides an opportunity to reflect on the global impact of malaria and the ongoing efforts to combat it. To shed light on this critical issue, we would like to introduce you to this article published in January by SLU researchers Sharon Hill and Rickard Ignell, in collaboration with international colleagues.
A reminder about our call: Researcher residency at Philipssonska gården 20-21 August 2024.
For the third year in a row, SLU's Future Platforms invited SLU researchers to a research residency for discussions on interdisciplinary research. We will focus on the environment and sustainability in combination with forests, food, health and urban landscapes.
Meet Krista Tuominen – one of the two new postdocs in One Health!
Krista Tuominen is one of two new postdocs in One Health. Her research focuses on understanding the dynamics of Campylobacter, an important pathogen that connects humans, animals and the environment.
SLU conducts interdisciplinary research in the One Health area. Here we present a selection of research projects, publications as well as research results in the field.
We want to highlight some of the research carried out by SLU due to malaria and other mosquito-borne diseases. A recently published article in BMC Medicine by SLU researchers Sharon Hill and Rickard Ignell, in collaboration with international colleagues, describes the successful use of synthetic cattle urine to bait malaria mosquitoes into traps. The authors conclude that a combined use of odour-based mass trapping and conventional control strategies can reduce human-vector contact and malaria prevalence, providing support for next-generation vector control tools.
Our aim with The One Health Breakfast Club is to stimulate interdisciplinary and cross-faculty collaborations. We meet and greet on a regular basis, to hopefully gain some new insights and inspiration while having breakfast together.
Join us next time when Susanna Sternberg Lewerin, talks about "Ongoing international One Health activities".
