CMESNewsletter #43March 2024 | | | | Message From the DirectorSpring greetings from the CMES team!Welcoming the spring, the CMES garden is now covered with beautiful flower beds! We are in the midst of the spring semester with many exciting activities. In March, Nowruz was celebrated with a feast of Persian delights for staff and Arabic language students. The reading course on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is now in full swing drawing participants from diverse disciplinary backgrounds. Looking ahead to April, we have two international events lined up. First, a topical policy-research dialogue will explore Europe’s changing perceptions and policies towards Iran. Second, an international workshop is held on post-conflict political generations of women and youth activists in the ‘second wave’ of the Arab Spring. CMES has recently announced several calls for project proposals and writing retreats. Please note the deadline for submission is 30 April. CMES is also organizing the Third Annual Swedish Middle East and North Africa Network (SWEMENA) Conference to be held on 22-23 August at Lund University. The call for papers, panels and roundtables has been announced with a set deadline for submission on 3 May. Finally, CMES continues to welcome new staff members. Krishna Kumar starts up his post-doctoral position on research data infrastructure. Anne Lene Stein is joining us to teach the course on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Lisa Strömbom is here for a writing retreat until the end of the spring semester. For the latest updates, stay tuned on our website, social media and by subscribing to the Newsletter! | Karin AggestamCMES Director and MECW Coordinator
