Nu kör vi Act Sustainable 2020!

På måndag 16/11 drar det igång, Chalmers och Göteborgs universitets hållbarhetsvecka Act Sustainable 2020! Varje dag hela veckan kör vi digitala seminarier, föreläsningar och workshops på olika ämnen men alltid på temat hållbar utveckling, forskning och samverkan. Eftersom årets upplaga av Act Sustainable är helt digital har vi extra satsningar i sociala medier. New guide for the SDG Impact Assessment Tool

The first guide for the SDG Impact Assessment Tool is now being released. Since the launch of the tool almost two years ago, the use has become widely spread, both geographically and organisation-wise. Anders Ahlbäck is the project manager of the tool and one of the authors of the new guide.
– The handling of the tool has shown to be easy, but it might be challenging to apply the tool in different contexts and to understand the iterative learning process. The lessons that we’ve learned since the launch, and the feedback from users, have now been compiled into a user guide.

Sustainable food systems key to to reversing the loss of nature
| The 25th session for the Food and Agriculture Organization’s Committee on Forestry (COFO 25), the highest FAO Forestry statutory body, took place during October 5-9, 2020. The session discussed several key issues related to the sustainability of forests and biodiversity.
- It’s not possible to separate forest health, our health, climate and biodiversity from how we produce and trade our food. The big challenge ahead is how we manage to link these interconnected issues in policy processes and structures that often operate separately, said Maria Ölund, Project Manager at Focali, who participated in the COFO meeting as part of the Swedish delegation.Read more

Access to clean water is a growing challenge worldwide. Landscape restoration can provide an effective response while doing good for people and nature. An online event organized by the Swedish Water House and Agroforestry Network together with WWF, SLU Global, SIANI and Focali, highlighted the benefits of landscape restoration from different angles. Research collaboration in low- and middle-income countries – findings, lessons and ways forward for implementing Agenda 2030Collaboration across national borders and academic disciplines is more important than ever. In practice, however, international collaboration often faces challenges that arise from differences in contexts, incentives and traditions. We are convinced that these can be overcome and that we can do more and do better. You are invited to a conference that brings together people from different academic backgrounds and contexts with a common interest to collaborate across borders in order to learn, share and overcome obstacles. Insatser i "utsatta" områden - fungerar de? En analys av 20 års områdesutveckling och lärdomar inför framtiden publicerades i december 2019 av Bostad 2030. Rapporten är en kunskapsöversikt som diskuterar svenska studier av områdesutveckling hittills under 2000-talet.

Launch of AgriFoSe2030 to highlight and celebrate the new, second phase of the AgriFoSe2030 programme
|
AgriFoSe2030 contributes to sustainable intensification of agriculture for increased food production, and aim to do so by transforming practices toward more efficient use of human, financial and natural resources. We synthesise and translate existing science into policy and practice, and develop capacity to achieve this. In this online event we will get a brief overview of the challenges smallholder farmers are facing in AgriFoSe2030 target regions, sub-Saharan Africa and South and Southeast Asia, as well as listen to some of the exciting projects that will continue in this next phase!

Sustainable development in education – Workshop with SDG Impact Assessment Tool On behalf of the Board of Education, the Sustainability Labeling System at the University of Gothenburg will be revised during 2020/2021. One possibility that stands out is to relate it to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In this workshop you will receive an introduction to the SDG Impact Assessment Tool, as well as do two practical elements linked to a course or program you teach or are responsible for.
The workshop is practical and interactive in nature. The workshop is open to teachers and all interested at the University of Gothenburg.

Risker med nanorobotar måste utforskas

Vi lever i ett samhälle genomsyrat av teknisk utveckling. Vi har allt från självkörande bilar till AI-verktyg som bistår vid medicinsk bedömning. Så borde vi oroa oss över utvecklingen av mikroskopiskt små nanorobotar som potentiellt kan göra stor nytta för hälsa och miljö? Ja, menar Chalmersforskaren Rickard Arvidsson som har kartlagt vad vi vet om denna nya teknik.

Har ny kärnkraft tekniska och ekonomiska förutsättningar att möta klimatutmaningen?Chalmers styrkeområde Energi bjuder in till ett lunchwebbinarium om kärnkraft. Kärnkraften, som idag gör 40 procent av jobbet för att vi i Sverige ska ha konstant tillgång på el, är energisystemets vattendelare. Alltsedan Barsebäck startade på 70-talet har tekniken varit en het potatis på den politiska agendan. Det här seminariet handlar inte om att vara för eller emot kärnkraft.
Ambitionen är att belysa frågan om kärnkraft ur flera perspektiv.

Climate lunch: How can the digital transition give the universities a boost in the climate issue?The Corona crisis and digital opportunities give us chances to think new on the climate issues within the universities. We travel less but at the same time use more digital technology that requires natural resources. We also have the chance to invite more people than we usually do to lectures and conferences on sustainability - including groups that have not met before. Strong measures are needed to achieve the Paris Agreement's aim of 1.5-degree and everyone can contribute to the transition.

Accelerating Education for the SDGs in Universities
|
Universities and other higher education institutions have a critical role in helping society achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including by harnessing their learning and teaching functions to provide Education for the SDGs. However, the SDGs require deep and radical transformations in each country. Incremental approaches will not be enough to tackle the urgent and complex challenges outlined by Agenda 2030. In order to play a leading role in these transformations, universities will also need to evolve.
