On 1 April, Johan Dicksved, researcher at the Department of Animal
Nutrition and Management, became the first vice dean responsible for research
infrastructure.
“A clearer contact point for infrastructure at the faculty is a good thing. It provides a clear focus for this field, like a hub. This is important. As I’m responsible for the entire faculty, my role will be to act as a unifying force”, explains Johan.
As this is largely new territory, he finds the task something of a challenge. However, it’s clear that the animal facilities, that is Röbacksdalen, Götala, Lövsta and the VHC stables, are a priority.
The Faculty Board's meeting on September 14 contained agenda had many information points, including about the Integration Project and the Expansion Project as well as the financial half-year report. The board made decisions concerning recruitments, on new members of the Companion Animals Research Fund and on dates for next year's faculty board meetings.
The project's directive and members of the steering group is now decided by the vice-chancellor. She also instructed the university director to appoint a project manager and determined how the costs of the project (project manager and controller) will be financed.
Risk and impact assessments will be carried out with start next week. The results will later form the basis for decisions on integration. You can read more about this and the project directive in Swedish here. An english version of the project webbsite will soon be published.
This autumn, we welcomed more students to the two programs that are part of the expansion project. This year, we have 115 places in the Veterinary Nursing Programme and 110 in the Veterinary program.
This is an increase with 15 and 7 places respectively in the number of places since last year.
This year's increase is the first step towards increasing the number of students according to the government’s instruction. So far everything has worked well and the project follows the plan. From the fall of 2023, the plan is to admit 145 new veterinary students per year, and the number of places for the animal nursing program will remain at 115.
If you have any questions about the expansion project, visit the project's website (in Swedish only). There are also dates for the autumn's upcoming drop-in dialogues with project manager Anders Bjurstam and vice dean Johanna Penell, where you are most welcome with your questions and ideas.
