We’ll soon
be heading into 2023, a year that holds many exciting events to look forward
to. Research funding from Formas, VR, EU and foundations such as Wallenberg and
Kempe need to be turned into research that contributes to the development of
society. We need to recruit new colleagues in research domains that need
developing. Our students will learn and grow and discover exciting new issues
thanks to our inspiring range of Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes. There is
an increased demand for forestry education and our programmes are attracting
more students. The work we’ve put into improving our programmes has paid off.
All
students and scientist are welcome to meet IUFROs President John Parrotta and
CEO Alexander Buck during their visit to Ultuna and Umeå, to learn more about
IUFRO: s strategy and how to take part in the IUFRO World Congress 2024.
The meeting can be followed digitally from Alnarp and Skinnskatteberg.
At SLU, internationalization is gaining momentum, and the Faculty of Forest Sciences is at the forefront, empowering the Global North-South's roots. Challenging it may sound, but the faculty is building grounds to illustrate how it works.
To
strengthen interdisciplinary research, SLU Future Forests is launching a seed
money call in subjects related to forest sciences and sustainable forestry
development. Researchers at SLU, Skogforsk and Umeå University can apply for
funds. Last day to apply will be January 27th 2023.
Forest Social will be back during the spring semester with new lectures. First
lecture will be held by Evans Korang Adjei, senior research assistant,
Department of Geography, Umeå University. The theme of the lecture is “Forest
and Living: An Analysis of the Forestry Industry”. The lecture will be held in
English and starts at 13.30 in Utsikten at Skogishuset (SLU, Umeå).
Let´s talk Science!
Is the growth of Swedish forests increasing or decreasing?
Several long-term forecasts of the growth of Swedish forests indicate increases due to climate change. On the other hand, the recent trend as observed in the Swedish National Forest Inventory has been decreasing growth. During this seminar, experts in the area will tell what we know, what we do not know, and what remains to be investigated.
Researchers in Skinnskatteberg, Alnarp and Ultuna are welcome to participate via link. Please check link below.
Climate Conversations 2023 - Kick-off with Johan Kuylenstierna
SLU’s Future Platforms and SLU Global initiated a webinar series of climate conversations in 2021-2022 with the background of the IPCC reports. The aim was to increase the scientific conversation about climate change across disciplines at SLU.
The next newsletter will be published on Januari 25 2023.
In the faculty's newsletter you can read about current events relevant to you as an employee at the Faculty of Forest Sciences. Deputy Dean Pernilla Christensen is responsible for the content. The newsletter is produced in cooperation with the internal editorial team at the Division of Communication.
