News from the VH Faculty Board September 13-14This time,
the Faculty Board held its meeting in Umeå. The agenda included several
recruitment matters, a report on the half-year financial statement, but most
importantly, many updates about VH's projects. The Board conducted a site visit to
Röbäcksdalen. | | | | | Veterinary License in Australia and New ZeelandDiscussions
are underway with The Australasian Veterinary Boards Council (AVBC) regarding
an accreditation of our veterinary education. The goal is to enable
veterinarians trained with us to apply for licensure in Australia and New
Zealand, and vice versa. This aims to expand the job market and opportunities
for gaining experience. Professor Ivar Vågsholm, who serves as the Liaison
Officer Visitation in the EAEVE accreditation process, is also the contact
person for AVBC.
| | | | | JO critique – Key lesson for the working groupIn spring
2022, the Parliamentary Ombudsman (JO) criticized SLU for violating the
prohibition of reprisals against a student who had written opinion articles
about the treatment of pigs during slaughter. VH took the criticism very
seriously and formed a working group to enhance understanding of freedom of
expression and opinion. At VH's teacher day (Lärardagen) in June, the working group
presented what it had done so far.
The teacher
day partially focused on a discussion and reflection on freedom of expression
and opinion in relation to students' and staff's working environment within the
faculty's education programs.
| | | | | New administrative manager at KV and UDSOn July 1,
Ann Heimer began as the new administrative manager at KV and UDS. Ann has
previously served as a manager within the government for a little over 20 years
and possesses substantial experience in complex transformation journeys.
In recent
years, Ann has held positions such as the administrative manager at the
Institute for Language and Folklore, followed by the County Administrative
Board in Uppsala. Ann expresses her anticipation in learning more about the
operations, internal procedures, and, notably, all the abbreviations. | | | | | Medal for distinguished service to Lotta Berg
The Gold Medal for Distinguished Service this year is awarded to Lotta Berg, professor of Animal Environment and Health at VH. In addition to Lotta Berg, professor emeritus Geoffrey Daniel and Jonas Hentati Sundberg was rewarded. Both are active at SLU. The awards will be presented in connection with this year's graduation ceremony on 7 October in Uppsala. | | | | |
Henrik becomes a professor at BVF
The Vice-Chancellor
has decided to appoint Henrik Rönnberg as a professor in veterinary
pharmacology, with a full-time position at the Department of Biomedical
Sciences and Veterinary Public Health. The decision applies from the 19th of
September.

Johan
becomes a professor at HUV
Johan
Dicksved becomes a professor of nutritional physiology and metabolism in
monogastric animals at the Department of Animal Nutrition and Management, on a
full-time basis. This decision was recently made by the Vice-Chancellor and is
effective from September 7th.

Lectures by SLU´s new honorary doctors
| Welcome to attend lectures by SLU's new honorary
doctors on Friday, 6th October, in the Loftet lecture hall at Ultuna. The
lectures can be attended in person or via live streaming on the web.
The broadcast will start at 9:00 AM. The videos from the broadcast will be
published sometime after the lectures on the respective honorary doctor's page. | VH's honorary doctorPeter Forssberg has been appointed honorary doctor of veterinary medicine at VH. | | | | | | | | | Doctoral Award Ceremony 2023Saturday 7 October is the date for this year's doctoral award ceremony, where new doctors, jubilee doctors and honorary doctors will have their honours conferred on them. Welcome
warmly to this year's Mjökvecka, where we delve into the opportunities and
challenges of Swedish milk production. On the 25th of October, a physical
conference will be held in Uppsala (which will also be broadcasted digitally),
and webinars will take place on the 23rd and 26th of October.
Fresh
research findings from a research program led by SLU Future Food in collaboration
with SLU, Chalmers, and RISE will be discussed. | Agricultural Economics ConferenceOn the 24th of October, it's time
for a day focused on corporate management at SLU Ultuna. The conference is
organized by the Knowledge Hub for Corporate Management and Entrepreneurship.
