Professor Lena Lidfors is the vice dean who returned. Lena has previously had the assignment as vice dean with responsibility for doctoral education and gender equality issues and was now asked again.
- I have a strong commitment to issues of doctoral education and gender equality, so when I was asked some months ago I could not say no, says Lena Lidfors.
The
faculty board met on 27 April. The main items on the agenda were information on
the quarterly financial statement and the expansion of the veterinary
programmes. The board also took decisions on recruitments. The meeting ended
with a visit to the VHC stables.
Update on the expansion of the Veterinary and Veterinary Nursing programmes
The project is progressing according to plan and the activities are gradually becoming more concrete. The project's web pages contain summaries and documentation from the workshops and dialogue meetings with, among others, students.
Next comes planning the next meeting with the external reference group and anchoring the framework schemes that are ready at a first rough level. Furthermore, several feasibility studies are underway for handling various bottlenecks that the increased student volumes can create, such as transport to and from Lövsta.
More information about the results of these activities will be published continuously on the project's web.
There are as many as ten people who will give their popular science lectures at this spring's associate professor lectures at VH on 10 to 12 May. The lectures are held at Ultuna but are also broadcast live via Zoom.
On April 8, ten new professors were installed at SLU in Uppsala followed by dinner and dancing at Uppsala Castle. Happily, three of the newly installed professors are at the VH faculty. Erika Roman has been professor of domestic animal physiology since 1 August 2019, Johan Bröjer became professor of equine internal medicine on 1 January 2021 and Anna Skarin has been a professor of reindeer husbandry since 1 August 2021. Here you can see the presentations of the new professors.
On May 3, Ulla Håkanson, the grand old lady and queen of dressage, visited SLU in Ultuna. Vice-Chancellor hosted the visit, and together with dean Rauni Niskanen the guests were shown around at VHC and UDS.
Johan Bröjer, Katarina Nostell and Sanna Truelsen Lindåse presented their ongoing research project on Equine Metabolic Syndrome, partly funded by Ulla Håkanson, and some new exciting research projects were also presented.
Anna-Lena Holgersson, director of the Hippology Unit and editor in chief of the online magazine HästSverige, partly financed by Ulla Håkanson, wrapped the day up by informing about the sites progress and the latest news about the hippology program.
Animal Task Force
- an important link to the EU for VH's researchers
EU funding is an increasingly important part of our operations at VH and it is a reality that we share with many other players in Europe. Information about call texts and announcements at an early stage of the process is one of the keys to successful applications and projects.
Since 1 April, researcher Mårten Hetta at the Department of Agricultural Research for Northern Sweden (NJV) in Umeå has been the new representative in the Animal Task Force (ATF). Mårten Hetta has worked for a long time with EU funding and succeeds Dirk-Jan de Koning as a representative in ATF.
The idea of VH's involvement in ATF is to work with the faculty's research secretary Ann-Sofi Bergqvist, Grants Office and the faculty's EU team to monitor and ensure that the information to and from Brussels reaches departments and research groups.
You are welcome to contact Mårten Hetta to present initiatives and raise issues concerning EU funding.
Half a million to the Companion Animals Research Fund
500 000 kronor has been bequeathed to the Pet Research Fund. The donation comes from the late spouses Edith and Börje Gustafsson, who with their gift wanted the money to be "used for research and method development regarding cats' diseases" and in particular "urinary tract complications in neutered male cats of the breed European short-haired".
The money will be transferred to SLU during 2022 and is planned to start being distributed as of next year's call.
Animal experiments in research - what, how and why?
Animal experiments in research - what, how and why? Recently, a new version of the website djurförsök.info was launched. The web is a collaboration between the Swedish Research Council and eight higher education institutions, including SLU. It is aimed for anyone who wants to gain basic knowledge about the use of animal experiments in research in Sweden.
In the faculty's newsletter you can read about current events relevant to you who are an employee at the VH Faculty. Head of Faculty Administration Caroline Carlström is responsible for the content. The newsletter is produced in cooperation with the internal editorial team in the Division of Communication.
The newsletters are usually issued in connection with faculty board meetings. The last meeting during the spring is held June 13. Next newsletter will be published on June 21.
