Summer vacations are approaching, and Swedish Life Cycle Center wishes you all a joyful summer!
It has been an intense semester with a lot of activities and a lot of learnings, networking and new ideas for projects and working groups.
The long-awaited working group on biodiversity ran during the semester giving insights regarding ongoing activities on addressing biodiversity pressures from agriculture, forestry, and marine activities. It has also been a forum for initiating new collaborations within the topic. The project Environmental footprint in Swedish Industry – increased understanding and implementation started two case studies and arranged meetings in the Expert group for Environmental footprint. Results from that project will be presented during autumn. The Life Cycle Talks series presented Cecilia Sundberg who gave an excellent talk on why we need a life cycle perspective on negative emissions. If you missed it or other previous talks, they can be found on our YouTube channel.
During the first six months of the year, we have initiated new collaborations with the national authorities Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management, Vinnova and Geological Survey of Sweden and with the SMEs Dalemarken and ZeBeyond. We are looking forward to good collaborations with these organizations moving forward.
Don't forget that you are welcome to provide us with news and publications for future newsletters! Now we look forward to a few weeks with a different focus, swimming in the sea, walking in the forest or spending time in the shade and reading a book. In any case, we are refueling our batteries and getting ready for the fall semester!
Sincerely,
Anna and Maria, Technical Secretariat, Swedish Life Cycle Centre |

Case studies to test circular footprint formula and modeling of biogenic carbon The project “Environmental footprint in Swedish Industry - increased understanding and implementation” has now defined two case studies that will test part of the Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) method to better understand what effects an implementation can have in the industry. One case study will test the circular footprint formula and the other how to model the impact on climate change with focus on biogenic carbon. | PhD course increases students understanding of LCADuring April and May, the PhD-course Advances in Life Cycle Assessment (5 credits) was held. A total of 30 students participated. New for this year was the opportunity for partner organizations in the Swedish Life Cycle Center to participate. And we are very pleased that five life cycle professionals took this as a cross-listed course alongside the PhD students. | | | |

Green ClaimsIn March EU proposed a new law on green claims, taking action to address greenwashing, and protect consumers and the environment. The proposal concerns voluntary, explicit environmental claims made by traders to consumers. The proposed directive also introduces penalties against greenwashing and tighter rules for the approval of new ecolabels.

| Collaboration opportunitiesSwedish Life Cycle Center plays an important role for all its actors within the Center to build networks, competence and influence future development. How the partnership is used is up to the partner. Partners value the direct contact to the network, research and high level discussions. Others are engaged in working groups that go in line with their organization’s agenda. And for some organizations, Swedish Life Cycle Center has been and is a key to their continuous work with life cycle related improvements and capacity building. The Center hosts a dialogue group with nine government agencies in Sweden, engages small and medium-sized companies through a letter of collaboration and enters into collaborative partnerships with other life cycle organizations at a global level. |
